How to Create an AI Content Brief

A content brief is the bridge between a vague topic and a useful first draft. It gives an AI assistant enough context to produce a structured answer while giving a human writer a checklist for review.

Quick takeaway: Good AI work is usually a workflow: define the task, provide trustworthy context, set useful constraints, review the result and iterate.

1. Define the reader

Describe who will use the page and what they already know. A beginner guide and an expert reference should not have the same assumptions.

2. Define the problem

Write the real question the page should answer. This prevents the draft from becoming a collection of loosely related facts.

3. List must-cover points

Include requirements, examples, comparisons, common mistakes, FAQs or process steps that matter to the reader.

4. Set editorial boundaries

Specify tone, terminology, approximate depth and facts that must come from supplied sources. Tell the model what it should not invent.

5. Add a quality checklist

Ask the draft to be checked for repetition, missing sections, unsupported claims and whether the conclusion actually helps the reader take the next step.

Practical next step: Pick one of the PromptKitHub tools and turn the framework above into a reusable prompt. Then test the result with your own source material.

Practical example

A useful brief can include audience, search intent, primary questions, source material, required sections, examples, internal links and a fact-check list. Ask AI to flag missing inputs rather than filling them silently.

FAQ

How much context is enough?

Enough to remove the important ambiguity, but not so much that the actual task becomes hard to find. Keep the source and instructions clearly separated.

Should AI output be used without review?

For important work, review the result against the original source and the requirements before publishing, sending or making a decision.
